Minor League Report for 7/26
Tuscon 10 Iowa 7 - Randy Wells, who this site recently featured, took the loss to drop to 4-3 at AAA Iowa. Wells threw just 4 innings, and gave up 10 hits, 5 runs, all earned, and of the 10 hits, 4 were homeruns. At the plate, Felix Pie continued his hot hand extending his hitting streak to 10, going 3-5, all singles, and didn't strike out raising his average to .272. Casey McGehee also went 3-5 at the plate, hitting in the 3 hole, with a double and 2 RBIs.
Chattanooga 3 West Tennessee 0 - Chris Shaver (5-7) pitched 5 innings, gave up7 hits, 3 ER, and 6 walks in taking the loss as his ERA went to 2.64 on year. At the plate, the D-Jaxx only managed 4 hits as a team, but 2 were by Chris Walker who went 2-4 at the plate. Brian Dopirak went 0-4 at the plate, striking out twice, and saw his average to drop to .243 on the year.
Dunedin 8 Daytona 4 - Donnie Veal started and pitched brilliantly again, but the bullpen couldn't keep in the game in control for Veal to earn the win. Veal threw 5 innings, and gave up 4 hits, 1 ER, 3 walks and struck out 9. Veal's ERA actually increased in this outing, going from 1.03 to 1.12. At the plate, Sam Fuld went 2-4 with 2 doubles as did Matt Craig. Alan Rick went 3-4 with a double and 2 RBIs.
West Michigan 10 Peoria 0 - Five Peoria Chiefs had singles, and that was it at the plate in a game that saw Peoria pitchers combine to give up 10 runs and 14 hits. Matt Avery, who had pitched tremendously all year long, pitched 1 inning and gave up 3 hits and 4 ER. Avery's ERA rose to 1.73 now on the season.
Boise 9 Spokane 4 - Tyler Colvin's hitting streak moved to 8 as the Cubs' 2006 1st round pick went 1-5 at the plate. Josh Lansford showed a little pop in his bat going 2-5 at the plate with his 2nd HR of the year as did Matt Matulia whose first professional HR was a grand slam in the 7th inning. On the mound, Alfredo Francisco moved to 4-0 on the year with 4 shutout innings, giving up 3 hits, walking none, and striking out 5.

Suarez who I thought was 16, hasn't showed up in any box scores yet that I could find. As far as Francisco, he's 21, soon to be 22, and is a converted third baseman.
