Heating it up in Orlando

I'm in Orlando right now, and it seems when I'm out of town I come back and the Cubs have made a flurry of moves. It happened last week when Scott Williamson was traded, and it has happened now when Todd Walker and Greg Maddux were dealt.

While Maddux netted the Cubs Cesar Izturis, the Padres returned the Cubs, Jose Ceda, a 19 year old minor leaguer that has been clocked at 99 in a game. If you appreciate minor league potential, Ceda has huge upside.

It will be interesting to see what happens with the Cubs starting rotation now that Maddux departs. It is very possible we will see Jerome Williams, Angel Guzman, or Jae Kuk Ryu once again, or we could see Glendon Rusch again, and we all know we don't want that to happen.

  • Personally, I like Williams, for such a young kid he knows how to get batters out without a 95 mph fastball. He moves the ball around and eats up innings, which is really something the Cubs could use right now.

I agree though, Guzman should be recalled and put in long relief.

  • Good question, I don't think it's his stuff, but probably more a question of focus.
