Minor League Report for 6/27

Iowa 2 New Orleans 0 - Rich Hill (5-1) continued his masterful pitching in AAA, by going 7 IP, giving up only 1 hit, walking 2, and striking out 9. Hill dropped his ERA to just 1.91, and his numbers are just ridiculous at this point with a WHIP of .83 and a 6.79/1 K/BB ratio. Buck Coats provided enough run support for Hill by hitting his 4th HR of the year in the 3rd inning.

Peoria 3 Wisconsin 1 - Todd Blackford (7-2) went 7 shutout innings, giving up just 3 hits to take the win for the Peoria Chiefs, while Matt Avery picked up his 4th save of the year with a perfect 9th inning. Ryan Norwood went 3-4 at the plate with a double, while Jesus Valdez went 2-3. Prospect, Mark Reed went 1-4 with a walk and a RBI at the plate hitting in the 3rd spot in the lineup, and is now hitting 328/377/406 on the year.

Boise 5 Salem-Keizer 0 - A lineup change was made, and Russ Canzler added a timely 3 run HR in the first, his 3rd of the year. Ben Petrick (1-0) pitched 6 shutout innings, giving up 2 hits, no walks, and striking out 5, while Jeremy Papelbon pitched 3 shutout innings, giving up just 1 hit, no walks and striking out 2 to earn his 1st save of the year.

Notes: Baseball America posted their Prospect Hot Sheet and 2 Cubs were featured. A good bit of information is given on Randy Wells, and specifically his lack of appearance on the Hot Sheet, while Rich Hill was given the 6th spot on the list.
