Notes: The Cubs have annouced some signings. First, the Cubs have signed a 16 year old Venezuelan, Larry Suarez, and Cubs.com is officially reporting the signing of Chris Huseby and Andrew Rundle the 11th and 14th picks in the 2006 draft, respectively. The Cubs believe Suarez was the top pitching prospect out of Latin America, while Baseball America rated him one of the top 10 Latin American prospects available to be signed.

2 Comments:

  • Don't know much about Huseby, but as has been reported by several sources he was overlooked by quite a few because of his signing bonus demands and his recent injury problems.

As far as Papelbon, he isn't quite the physical speciman his brother his. Papelbon is listed at 6'1" 205 on the University of North Florida, where he pitched in college. He pitched in a relatively small college at UNF, but put up nice numbers, 5-4 with a 2.43 ERA this season. Papelbon is also left-handed which distinguishes him from his brother.

He is already 23, so expect him to be sent to Peoria or Daytona soon with his success at Boise.

  • Just filling a roster spot needed, most likely.
