Weekend Minor League Report
There were some interesting things happening in the Cubs system, probably most interesting is a rumor that was started over at Bleed Cubbie Blue that has Alex Rodriguez ending up with the Cubs. As far as the minor league system, here are some Monday more bullets to catch everyone up:
- Rich Hill was selected to be the starting pitcher for the PCL in the AAA all-star game on July 12th. Hill is now 5-1 with a 1.85 ERA for Iowa.
- While Felix Pie's average has dropped below .250, he did steal 2 bases over the weekend without being caught once.
- Eric Patterson stole 3 bases this weekend raising his total to 27 on the year.
- Jeff Samardzija made his second outing, and pitched 3 shutout innings lowering his ERA to 3.60 in 5 innings total for Boise.
- Tyler Colvin is 5-18 on the year, hitting .278 without an extra base hit yet.
- Another 2006 draftee, Jeremy Papelbon, has been dynamite so far in the Northwest League. The brother of Red Sox' closer, Jonathan, Jeremy has pitched 9 shutout innings giving up 2 hits, 1 walk, and striking out 8 in 3 relief appearances.
- Russ Canzler also continues to impress at Boise now with an OPS approaching 1200
- Former high school competitor, Josh Hamilton, has been reinstated by Major League Baseball.
