July: Cubs Top 10 Prospects

Its the 1st of July, so that means its time for the latest and most up to date Cubs Top 10 Prospects, keeping in mind, guys that have made an appearance in the majors are no longer available for this list:

1. Donald Veal LHP
2. Sean Gallagher RHP
3. Felix Pie OF
4. Mark Pawalek LHP
5. Eric Patterson 2B
6. Brian Dopirak 1B
7. Mitch Atkins RHP
8. Jake Fox C
9. Mark Reed C
10. Chris Shaver LHP

Honorable Mention: Jeff Samardzija, Tyler Colvin, Randy Wells

Notes: Veal has shot up this list by dominating High A Daytona after a call up, while Pie and Pawalek have fallen after shaky starts. But since, this list is a combination of stats and potential, they still remain faily high. Jake Fox and Chris Shaver are introduced to the list this month, while Sean Gallagher rises after continuing to pitch well after the callup to AA, West Tennessee.

Your Turn: Where did I go wrong? Post your list, or tell me how wrong I am in the Comments!

  • To me you still have Dopirak too high and Pawalek should go lower based on how he has started.

Here is the BA story on Huseby:

thanks for the daily updates. Now that the MLB cubs are out of it I enjoy following the minors more and more.

  • Yeah, Dopirak is still a big question mark to me, but I have a feeling that he is still recovering from his early season leg injury. Give him some time, and I think you'll see him start to turn things around.

As far as Pawalek, he's had 4 appearances, and that's way too early to call on a kid that isn't 20 yet.

Thanks for the kind words about the site.

  • what about scott moore, it seems as though he's figuring things out. do you not think its possible for him to live up to his potential as the 7th or 8th overall pick a few years ago?

  • Moore's K rate is alarming but he does have some nice potential. When I look at Moore the person I think of his Mark Bellhorn.
