  • Ryan Norwood is another guy out of my area. He went to Eastern Carolina and was drafted in the 9th round of the 2004 draft.

He is a right-handed hitting first baseman with some pop and questionable strike zone judgement.

  • Unfortunatlely, I don't have any inside info on Dopirak, but I have to believe he is still recovering from his leg injury as he is currently splitting time with Brandon Sing. Dopirak is hitting .257 but really hasn't shown any pop in his bat since his return.

As far as Norwood, I don't believe he has the athleticism to make the transition. At 6'4" 220, he isn't in bad shape, but giving his stolen base numbers in college and the minors, he isn't exactly a speed demon. I have doubts that he could make it in the outfield.

  • Patterson is back up to .286 now. He's been on tear since being named to the Futures Game Roster.

As far as Veal, he's legit, a 2nd rounder in the 2005 draft from a Community College. He was rated the 2nd best prospect by the managers in the Northwest League.

Since being called up to Daytona to High A, Veal has an ERA of 0.00 in 11.2 IP. The only thing that might be a concern is his high walk rate.

  • Depends on how much of a chance he is given this year (if he gets the call).

  • Cedeno will never hit over 10 HRs in a season, although as he fills out he will have better gap power.

I'd say it is 60/40 that Cedeno will be the starting 2nd baseman as compared to Eric Patterson for 2007.

That being said, I haven't soured on Cedeno at short like some have. I think he could be a very good defensive player there, but it is more likely he would be moved to 2nd so that the Cubs could go after a big name SS.

  • Patterson doesn't have the arm strength to play SS.

Similar to his brother (although not in the 20-30 range like Corey), Eric should hit with some pop, definitely more than Cedeno.
