September: Top 10 Prospects

Its the 1st of September, so that means its time for the latest and most up to date Cubs Top 10 Prospects. This will be the final top 10 of the season, although the daily updates will keep coming through the Fall and Winter leagues. Back to the list, keep in mind, guys that have made an appearance in the majors are no longer available for this list:

1. Donald Veal LHP
2. Felix Pie CF
3. Sean Gallagher RHP
4. Mark Pawelek LHP
5. Eric Patterson 2B
6. Tyler Colvin OF
7. Scott Moore 3B
8. Jake Fox
9. Ryan Harvey
10. Mitch Atkins

Honorable Mention: Jeff Samardzija, Russ Canzler, Brian Dopirak

July's List
August's List

Notes: The top seven on the list remained unchanged from August, while Jake Fox and Ryan Harvey moved to 8 and 9, respectively, thanks to picking it up lately. Mitch Atkins also jumped back onto the top 10 thanks to his wonderful numbers this season, while Jeff Samardzija and Brian Dopirak's lack of action has dropped them to HM status. Randy Wells, who was #8 on the August list, as dropped completely off the charts while struggling mightily at Iowa. Finally, Russ Canzler moved to HM status with a 9 HRs and 30 RBIs in August.

Your Turn: Who is your September Top 10?

  • I am pretty certain based on the rich history of this organization that they will manage to screw up every player on this list and I will enjoy every last Cub loss.

  • Apparently, the above poster is a White (trash) Sox fan, who is disgruntled about his team's massive choke. Hurts, doesn't it?

  • I just wanted to say in responce to something someone said in July's list about Ryan Harvey

Ive watched him very closely.. VERY closely..

While his 4 homerun game is not only impressive, being the only one in the entire history of the Florida State League (about 97 years old i do believe)... 2 weeks prior to that he had a 7 RBI game that included a grandslam and a 3 run double.

Not only do these two game stand out in the last 130 he played this season, but i would also like to point one more aspect that deals with the way he played earlier on in the season.

If you remember correctly, he started the season out on the DL... because he hurt himself in the exhibition game. After 5 game of being on the DL, he came back and had 20 RBIs and 5 homeruns in the first 3 weeks he played.

After that the perivial BS started... something that the High-A cubs have put not only ryan harvey through, but also Jake Fox, and Brian Dopirak.

    They screwed with his hitting.

Basically to make a long story short, they tried to fix something that wasnt broken. Sure Harvey needed to start looking for more plate control.. when and when NOT to swing at pitches. It wasnt that he wasnt seeing the pitch.. it was a matter of the fact that he was concentrating way to hard on his swinging.. something courteosy of Don Buford and Richie Zisk.

After deciding to give them the "screw you" shoulder and start hitting the way he had been for the last 21 years of her life (after im sure speaking to both dopirak and fox)... he still got along very well w/ his coaches but started swinging the way he had been swinging, and pulled himself out of a slump (after i might add.. many injuries not only to his lower back but to other muscles as well.. due to the strain he was putting on himself trying to re-do his hitting)

Supposedly last i heard they had found a video of the way he hit in Instructional legue last year which is intirely differnt from how he is hitting now.. and are getting him back on track. Thank God someone realized how badly they were about to screw this man who is completely full of talent up... before it was too late.

Personally I'd love to see him, dopirak, e.patterson, and many others traded from the cubs organization.

I also personally do not feel that pawelek is holding up to his rank at all either.. patterson is good... pie, yes. Veal.. not as great of a pitcher as you might believe if he saw him in person.. though he does tend to mask some bad outings by putting up some good numbers.

  • Thanks for the insight on Harvey and his troubles at the plate this season. The last 3 months that he had certainly showed reason for hope. It sounds like you have some good knowledge of the situation, so please continue to dish it out here!
