Minor League Report for 6/13

Iowa 2 New Orleans 1 - Mark Prior made perhaps his last rehab start at New Orleans and went 6.2 innings striking out 10 and giving up only 1 unearned run. Casey McGehee was the lone Iowa Cubs starter with 2 hits. Prior was relieved by two former Cubs teammates, Jerome Williams and Michael Wuertz (2-0), who received the win. Ultimately, Buck Coats pinch hit and drove in the go ahead run for the Iowa Cubs in the top of the ninth.

West Tennessee 1 Huntsville 0 - JR Mathes threw 6.1 scoreless innings, giving up 3 hits, 1 walk, and striking out 9. Chris Walker and Scott Moore both had 2 hits for the D-Jaxx, while Brian Dopirak went 1-3 with a walk. As a team, the Diamond Jaxx had 6 hits, all singles.

Daytona 7 Jupiter 6 - Mike Billek made his Daytona debut, replacing Sean Gallagher in the Daytona rotation, but received a no decision on a night where catcher, Jake Fox went 4-4. Fox hit his 15th HR of the year and drove in 3 runs. Fox is absolutely hitting the cover off the ball for the D-Cubs with a line of 314/381/570 with 15 HRs and 59 RBIs in just 64 games. Ryan Harvey went 1-3 with 2 RBIs and is now hitting .210.

Jupiter 4 Daytona 3 - Jeff Culpepper had his 2nd 2 hit effort of the day by going 2-4 with a double and an RBI, but it wasn't enough to sweep Jupiter in the double header. Once again Ryan Harvey raised his average by going 1-4 and seeing his average get bumped up a point to .211. Jake Fox couldn't quite match his superb opening game, but managed to go 1-4 at the plate, but striking out 3 times.

Notes: As mentioned in a previous thread, Sean Gallagher has been promoted to AA, West Tennessee. Mike Billek has been promoted from Peoria to Daytona to take Gallagher's place in the rotation. One thing I missed last week was that 2004 2nd rounder, Grant Johnson, has been placed on the DL.
